The Senate recently declared June 20 American Eagle Day to celebrate the American Bald Eagle. It's doing so well these days, it will probably soon be removed from the Endangered Species list. For decades, our national bird was in danger of extinction! A population of hundreds of thousand of eagles was reduced to an all-time low of 417 nesting pairs by years of hunting, slaughter, institutional and farmers' bounties, and the environmental effects of DDT. But now, thanks to rigorous conservation, preservation, education, captive breeding and reintroduction programs, the American Bald Eagle population is growing rather than declining. Which just goes to show that we really can make a difference for the environment and the precious critters of this planet when we put our minds (and hearts and science) to it!
Next project: Global Warming!!

Don Cohen gave me one of my biggest musical career opportunities, opening for Craig Chaquico at the Musicians Exchange (the original one!) And I'm enormously grateful that, thanks to Don, I was able to see scores of musicians like
Laura Nyro, McCoy Tyner, Joe Zawinul, Steve Morse, Spirit and many others in that intimate setting. Don was also one of the few people in Florida who called me Laura Legwarmer - my rock and roll name from my Syracuse days - and I always loved that.Saturday, October 13, 2007
